FAQs
Is the Cromwell actually waterproof, or just "water-resistant"?
The Cromwell is technically waterproof. Unlike most "commuter" bags that use water-resistant coatings on stitched seams, the Cromwell uses high-frequency welded construction. This means the fabric is bonded together without needle holes, making the main compartment airtight and watertight. While you shouldn’t submerge it in a lake, it will keep your electronics bone-dry during a heavy tropical downpour or a rainy bike commute.
Will a 16-inch MacBook Pro fit in the laptop sleeve?
Yes. The padded internal sleeve is generously sized and easily accommodates the 16" MacBook Pro and most slim 15.6" Windows laptops.
Is it just a "black hole" inside, or is there organization?
A common complaint with rolltop bags is that items get lost at the bottom. Knomo solves this by including a dedicated organization panel inside.
Unlike basic dry bags, the Cromwell has:
- A padded laptop/tablet section.
- Two internal slip pockets for
- phones or power banks.
- Dedicated pen loops and a card holder.
- A key leash so you aren't digging at your front door.
How does it perform as a personal item for air travel?
The Cromwell is a favorite for "One-Bag" travelers. At 27.3L, it is right at the sweet spot for a weekend trip. When rolled down to its minimum height, it fits under most standard airline seats as a personal item. If you overstuff it to its full 24.5" height, you may need to store it in the overhead bin, but its slim profile makes it easy to slide into tight spaces.
Are the straps comfortable for heavy loads or cycling?
The Cromwell features S-shaped padded straps and a breathable air-mesh back panel that prevents the "sweaty back" effect during rides. It also includes an adjustable chest strap and a waist harness (rare for urban bags). These are crucial for cyclists as they stop the bag from shifting side-to-side when you're leaning over the handlebars or pedaling hard.
